Knee pain has an annoying habit of getting in life’s way. Before you know it, you’re no longer doing things that make your life fun and functional, like picking up a dropped pen, playing kickball, or moving that filing cabinet to its new spot across the room. In fact, knee pain is the most common musculoskeletal complaint that brings patients to the doctor, and incidences are increasing every year.
The knee is the largest joint in the body, and as such it is highly vulnerable to problems stemming from overuse. In other words, a lot of knee problems are derived from wear and tear, especially as we get older.
Here at Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), we treat each patient as an individual, seeking first to discover the source of your pain. Sometimes it’s an injury, like a sprain, strain, or tear. Other times the pain is caused by a degenerative disease like osteoarthritis, or inflammation problems such as bursitis and tendinitis. We’ll always seek to discover the root cause, determining first whether it’s acute or chronic.
Depending on severity, some knee problems do require surgery. But in optimal cases many common complaints, including persistent pain, are best addressed by both chiropractic treatment and acupuncture. If the sensations are caused by osteoarthritis, they are not technically curable, but certain modalities can considerably alleviate the pain.
Chiropractic manipulation will be used first to reduce inflammation of the knee joint and normalize its function. With knee problems, physical therapy is especially important. Modalities frequently used to treat knee pain include electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and cold laser therapy.
We have everything needed for treatment under one roof, and our skilled team won’t give up until we’ve helped reduce or eliminate your pain.
Don’t let persistent knee pain hold you back—let us give you the positive lift that you need so you can live the life that you desire.
