Common Disorders We Treat

Arthritis

From the Chiropractic perspective, a poorly functioning spinal column is the cause of many different ailments. Whether a traumatic injury, wear and tear, or any other stress, the nervous system can stop working at its ultimate capacity. That can breed pain or discomfort and can affect how the organs of your body function.

Our doctors’ methods of gently adjusting or manipulating the spine, as well as exercise recommendations, physical therapy, and rehabilitative activities will help to get your body working back to its optimal state.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is believed to be caused by excessive pressure on a nerve as it moves into the wrist through the carpal tunnel (which is the carpal bones of the wrist combined with ligaments on top). This syndrome can cause symptoms such as pain, “pins and needles”, numbness, discomfort, and weakness or loss or grip.

There are many treatments that simply reduce the symptoms, but not the source. New research shows that CTS can respond to non-surgical techniques that have been developed by chiropractic doctors. Some techniques used are traction, manipulation in order to realign the wrist bones and reduce pressure, and some physical therapies.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis occurs in boys and more often girls from eight to eighteen years of age. It can be something we are born with (congenial) or as result of assuming a distorted head or hip position (habitual). The problems can be easily corrected if detected in the early stages.

Specific chiropractic adjustments can help correct the early stages of scoliosis. Implementing a program of chiropractic care, the carrying of book bags properly, and early detection will ensure correct posture, strong muscles and improved function and structure of the spine.

Sciatica

Usually occurring to those in their 50s sciatica begins as a sharp pain in the lower back and later extends down the back or either leg. Long periods of sitting or standing usually worsen the pain. There are five pairs of nerves that exit the spine at its base and form into two sciatic nerves. When the discs between your vertebrae exhibit bulging, inflammation, or become herniated, they can create pressure on the sciatic nerves.

Correcting the spacing between the vertebras and relieving the pressure on these irritated nerves can be accomplished safely and naturally by chiropractic care.

Pinched Nerve

The pain from a pinched nerve comes from nerve tissues that become irritated by rubbing, stretching, or scraping of spinal joints that are displaced or not moving properly. This irritation can be caused by falling, car accidents, improper lifting, repetitive work, stress, sitting too long and many other things we do to our body.

Because chiropractic goes to the source of the problem instead of relieving the symptoms, your body’s own healing process can begin to take hold and correct the problem.

Fibromyalgia

This chronic disorder is characterized by widespread muscoskeletal pain, fatigue, and pain in eleven or more of the 18 specific trigger points when pressure is applied. Symptoms such as sleep disorder, morning stiffness, anxiety, irritable bowels syndrome, and others are associated with fibromyalgia.

Although the exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, the treatment is. Studies show that chiropractic care can relieve the pain. Exercise with a healthy diet, and regular adjustments will all reduce the pain as well as improve your overall health.
